Support Ride for Rations 2013!
Ride for Rations is a fund-raising bicycle ride from Malacca to Singapore. The movement (pun intended) intends to raise funds to support a program that provides food for the needy in two neighbourhoods in Singapore. On a monthly basis, beneficiaries will receive a package of "rations" consisting of rice, cooking oil, biscuits, powdered milk, etc. The beneficiaries are part of Sunlove Home's Neighbourhood Links initiative that reaches out to the needy and infirm.
Ride for Rations is just one of the fund-raising charity rides organized by Bike-Aid (Singapore). I've been participating in Bike-Aid events such as this since 1992. This year, I won't be cycling but participating as part of the Support Crew instead...
Although I'll not be sweating it out by cycling, I urge you to support me in supporting the cause! Please make a donation. Any amount would be greatly appreciated!
St Luke's Hospital Charity Cycle 2013
The beneficiaries for the SLH Charity Cycle are St Luke's Hospital (SLH) and SLEC (St Luke's eldercare).
St Luke's Hospital is expanding with the building of a new wing to add 48 beds and a bigger, better-equipped inpatient gym, day rehabilitation centre and outpatient clinic. St Luke’s Hospital still needs to raise over $4 million this year in order to meet its operating deficit.
SLEC needs to raise another $520,000 to equip the eldercare centres with new vans retrofitted with wheelchair lifters to transfer the elderly. In addition, with 90% of the elderly are being heavily subsidised, SLEC will need to raise more than $1.5 million every year to cover its operating deficits.
This year has been a life-changing one so far. I always believe what goes around, comes around. This will be my first charity ride and being off the bike for some time, it will take some determination and willpower to train for the distance.
No amount is too small and your help is very much appreciated! THANK YOU! :)

"Trekking to impart Skills to reduce Poverty"
Coming 13th July 2013, i am taking a break from my 1.5 decade usual routine work and try to trek to Mount Kailash (Himalayas) to connect to Nature.
This trekking trip is going to be real a challenge for me, because i lived all my life in Tropical Climate where as the climate in Mt Kailash is in the range of 0 to -10 degree Celsius.
Trekking demands approximately 18km Walk per day for 6 to 7 days which will also be a challenge for me because being a computer professional i have spent around 10-14 hours /day sitting in one corner.
In-order to face this challenges, For the past one month i started off with my Trekking training and breathing exercises regularly and in the process i am turning out to be more fit than the past and these fitness activities got High priority attention in my "To do" list.
How to do i face these challenges ? and what i am going to learn New during this Trekking Trip ? .. I will share my experiences to you all through blogs /social networking sites..
I wish to embrace these challenges and the experiences to a meaningful and for a purposeful movement. So i have decided to make it as a Donation Drive to AIDHA a Micro Business school based out of Singapore.
I want to embrace social cause as my career and this fund raising event will be my first step to learn and test the waters..
Having worked in power pact corporate life for almost 1.5 decades, i started having "Give back goals" to my annual goals list for the past two years. In the "Give Back goals" i will have annual donation / social services target and try to give donation /services for the social benefit as per my target
In process, i learnt that imparting skills to poor will be the best method to reduce poverty instead of just giving money because imparting skills will be a long term sustainable model for fighting poverty .
I was actually looking out for suitable platform and came across "GIVEAsia"and decided to start my movement through this platform.
